Listed below are organizations I have served through board or committee work:
Pine Rest is a psychiatric hospital and behavioral health provider located in Western Michigan. Pine Rest is "one of the five largest free-standing behavioral health providers in the United States, offering a full continuum of services including addictions treatment and recovery, extensive child and adolescent programs, senior care services, and Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)." I am currently a board member for the Pine Rest Foundation, where responsibilities include capital campaign fund development and participation in a grant-program that pulls from the endowment to fund internal grants focused on innovating the Pine Rest model of care.
River City Improv is the longest-running improv comedy troupe in Western Michigan. Team alumni include Marc Evan Jackson ("Parks and Recreation" and "Arrested Development") and Kiff VandenHeuvel (HBO's "Behind the Candelabra"). I currently serve on River City's board where responsibilities include setting up new structures for peer review, redeveloping performance incentives, and setting up board and team bylaws to increase the professionalism of the troupe as they move past their first twenty-years of existence.
Living Stones Academy is a startup elementary school with focus on providing premium faith based education while also reflecting the socio-economic and racial diversity of Grand Rapids City. In my time as a board member, the school has purchased a new building for the school and initiated a significant fund-development drive. Board responsibilities include the development of job responsibilities for the head of school, supervising the education committee, and chairing the school accreditation team.
ArtPrize is an international art competition held in Grand Rapids, MI entering its sixth year in 2014. ArtPrize is unusual for both the size of its prize ($200,000 for the winner, $560,000 for cumulative awards) and the method of selecting the winners (a combination of expert panelists and public vote). From 2012 to 2013, I served on a marketing advisory board for ArtPrize, working directly with marketing director Todd Herring. Responsibilities included rethinking the membership campaign and providing input on the larger branding of the art competition.
